How Much Chlorine do You Really Need?
The common guidelines you’ll read and hear about chlorine levels in your hot tub do not apply to FROG®! You probably already knew that, however, we realize that reading or hearing these “common” guidelines can be confusing, right?
Here’s a quick comparison of chlorine levels in chlorine-only hot tubs to FROG @ease® hot tubs:
Dichlor only hot tubs |
FROG @ease |
2.0 – 4.0 ppm |
0.5 – 1.0 ppm |
Add dichlor before and after use |
SmartChlor® Cartridges last 3-4 weeks |
Add additional “shock dose”
once a week |
Shock once a month with a
non-chlorine shock |
Cyanuric acid buildup with every
dose of dichlor, which can make
chlorine less effective |
Zero cyanuric acid buildup |
A traditional chlorine system typically works by adding chlorine to the hot tub as needed; typically weekly, and chlorine must be added manually.
Manually adding chlorine means you may want to use gloves, you have to deal with the smell and make sure it’s safely stored away from children and pets.
You eliminate manually adding chlorine with FROG @ease because the SmartChlor Cartridges are prefilled. Adding chlorine means replacing the SmartChlor Cartridge, that’s it.
But that’s not all – the Mineral Cartridge is what makes the difference.
Bacteria is killed 2 ways – with FROG Fresh Minerals and a low level of chlorine. That means less chlorine irritation, odor and swimsuit fade, but all the power of 2 sanitizers. Plus, FROG Minerals absorb acids to help keep pH balanced and create softer feeling water.
Best of all, with FROG @ease, you use up to 75% less chlorine.*
If your hot tub chlorine levels read higher than 0.5, you’re wasting chlorine. If you’re having trouble:
- Check to ensure that your Mineral Cartridge is less than 4 months old
- Put in a new Mineral Cartridge every time you drain and refill your hot tub
- Twist the dial on the FROG @ease SmartChlor Cartridge to the setting number for your hot tub (see chart in the manual).
- Use FROG @ease Test Strips to check that your hot tub water levels are correct:
- Total Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm
- pH: 7.2 – 7.8
- Total Hardness: 150 – 250
If these levels are not within guidelines, it will make a difference in how much chlorine is used and how effective it is or it isn’t.
You’re using FROG @ease – your hot tub only needs 0.5 ppm chlorine along with your Mineral Cartridge, no matter what else you read.
