If you haven’t downloaded the FROG Water Care App yet, the perfect time is when you drain and refill your hot tub. Under “Diagnose A Problem” we added a helpful checklist for starting up a FROG hot tub. Follow the 5 steps and you’ll be relaxing in no time.
Here are a few questions you may have during the process.
Why is it important to balance the water first?
Without your Total Alkalinity, pH and Hardness in the right ranges, your chlorine or bromine will never be effective. That leaves only the FROG minerals to do the work of two. The result is persistent cloudy water.
Why do you recommend chlorine shock at start-up and non-chlorine shock for maintenance?
At start-up we want to get a level of chlorine in the water so your @ease or Serene cartridges don’t have to work so hard to create that initial level. Once FROG is on cruise control at a low chlorine or bromine level, we don’t want to add any more chlorine to the water. So when it’s time to shock, we recommend a non-chlorine shock.
How do I know the right dial setting for my hot tub.
To begin with (for a few days) you need to do some testing and adjusting. With @ease there is less need to get the right setting because of its self-regulating properties. With Serene, start with the chart in the manual. Take a bromine reading 24 hours later and see if the level has dropped, risen or stayed the same. Adjust the dial by 1 number every 24 hours until the level stays in the ideal FROG range.
