You may have heard there’s a chlorine shortage.
The truth is there’s a trichlor shortage – a certain kind of chlorine – for two main reasons:
- A fire on August 27, 2020 burned down the plant that supplies the nation with trichlor tablets.
- COVID-19 mandates forced Americans to stay at home, starting in 2020, where they’re using their pools – a lot. That means chlorine usage has skyrocketed.
Remember, as a Pool FROG® owner, you’re using up to
50% less chlorine than conventional sanitizing systems or salt systems*.
You have no need to find or buy bulk trichlor – your FROG Bac Pac® is prefilled with trichlor and ready to use.
Even so, we have some tips to help you get the best out of your Pool FROG system.
10 Tips to Get the Most from Your Pool FROG System
- Make sure you’ve put in a new Mineral Reservoir, so you get the “full FROG® effect.” Your pool needs fresh minerals every pool season or every 6 months, whichever comes first. Minerals work with the chlorine to keep your pool clean and sparkling, all summer long.
- Use FROG BAM®, if you haven’t already done so, to rid your pool of algae for 90 days.
- Troubleshoot – If questions or issues arise, use the FROG Water Care app to locate a dealer, diagnose a problem or call us anytime – 800-222-0169 we can help. Don’t have it? Download it free now!
- Always shower before swimming, it will help to reduce make-up, soaps, oils, conditioners, sunscreen and other impurities, which create chlorine demand, from getting into your pool.
- Don’t let dogs or pets in your pool; one dog is the equivalent of 50 people. This will significantly reduce the amount of chlorine your pool consumes in a year.
- Don’t allow street clothes in the swimming pool; they introduce all kinds of contaminants and increase chlorine demand to keep your pool clean.
- Wash swimsuits in water – avoid detergent, its residue increases chlorine demand.
- Scoop, brush and vacuum your pool regularly and increase the amount of filtration your water gets. Every bit of debris you remove from your pool will reduce the amount of chlorine your pool uses.
- Keep your pool covered when not in use to lower evaporation, which has the effect of drastically increasing your chemical efficiency in the water.
- Stick to your pool maintenance schedule – keep your pool, equipment pad and surfaces clean and in good repair. Good circulation and clean filters help you have a clean pool.
* Compared to the minimum EPA recommended chlorine level of 1.0 ppm for a stabilized swimming pool.
