If you have purchased a FROG @ease or FROG Serene product, it came with a packet of FROG Jump Start. So why do we include it and when is it best used?
FROG Jump Start is a chlorine shock with a unique effervescent foaming action that quickly dissolves the chlorine so it doesn’t settle on the bottom of the hot tub. We include it with our systems because once the hot tub is filled and balanced to the proper Total Alkalinity, pH and Hardness, it’s time to set the sanitizing residual.
The great thing about shocking with chlorine is it doesn’t matter if your ongoing sanitizer is chlorine or bromine based. If using Smartchlor in @ease or Bromine in Serene, the initial Jump Start chlorine will convert to the new sanitizer as soon as you put your FROG System in the water. So FROG Jump Start gives you that initial sanitizer level in a convenient single dose pouch that shocks up to 600 gallons.
So that is the why, but what about the when? Another reason we include FROG Jump Start with your new system is because the best time to use it is when starting up a freshly filled hot tub. After that, FROG is all about reducing chlorine use so we always recommend a non-chlorine shock. With @ease you need to shock once a month or when replacing your SmartChlor Cartridge. With FROG Serene you should shock weekly to regenerate the bromine in the water.
With that said, if you find shocking with Jump Start on a regular basis easier than measuring out the right amount of shock from a 2-5 pound container, we don’t blame you. That’s perfectly ok. The nice thing about shocking with non-chlorine shock is you really can’t over dose your hot tub so even if you are off a bit with the amount you add, it does the job and leaves nothing behind.
