This is a two-part answer. First is the FROG minerals. Every FROG product for hot tubs has a Mineral Cartridge that lasts four months. If you should drain your hot tub prior to that, you would need to use a new Mineral Cartridge.
Second is the chlorine or bromine. This cartridge life is dependent on many variables, including how large the hot tub is in gallons, how many hours your circulation operates per day, the temperature of the water and especially how many people use the hot tub and how often. That means every hot tub is different when it comes to cartridge life.
Of all the variances, the use of the hot tub is the biggest factor. A 400-gallon hot tub used by four people every day of the week is going to go through more chlorine or bromine than the same size hot tub with two people using it once a week.
If you feel your chlorine or bromine cartridge should last longer, here are a few things you can try:
- Lower your dial setting – remember you only need to maintain a low level of chlorine or bromine as long as you use FROG minerals (see your FROG Test Strip for the ideal range).
- If the FROG system is getting sucked into the filter well area, tether it to the side of the hot tub. This will slow down the water flow through the cartridge.
- Remove the FROG System when using the hot tub and the jets are on. Just remember to replace it when you exit the hot tub.
Once you know the normal life of your cartridges, set a reminder to replace it on your phone or better yet, download the FROG Water Care App and get reminders sent to you automatically.
