Step 1. Drain and clean your hot tub and fill with fresh water. Test it with FROG® Test Strips to get Hardness, Total Alkalinity, and pH in the ideal ranges. See our helpful infographic on water balancing.
Step 2. Shock the water with FROG Jump Start®.
Step 3. Set the dial on your FROG @ease® or FROG Serene® System and place in the water or the appropriate, following the package directions.
If you haven’t downloaded the FROG Water Care App yet, the perfect time is when you drain and refill your hot tub. On the app under “Diagnose A Problem” you’ll find a helpful checklist to startup up a FROG hot tub. Follow the steps and you’ll be relaxing in no time. Even better, your hot tub will be ready whenever you are!
Have questions?
We’ve got answers to most frequently asked questions:
Why is it important to balance the water first?
Without your Total Alkalinity, pH and Hardness in the right ranges, your chlorine or bromine will never be effective. The result is persistent cloudy water.
Why do you recommend chlorine shock at start-up?
At start-up you want to get a level of chlorine in the water so your FROG @ease SmartChlor® or FROG Serene Bromine cartridges don’t have to work so hard to create that initial level.
Why do you recommend a non-chlorine shock for maintenance?
FROG is all about lowering chlorine or bromine use (or level?) so the water feels softer while still killing bacteria 2 ways. You also want to reduce the amount of Cyanuric Acid that enters the hot tub when you shock with chlorine as this could cause problems if the Cyanuric Acid builds up. A non-chlorine shock will not cause Cyanuric Acid buildup. Once FROG is on cruise control at a low chlorine or bromine level, you don’t want to add any more chlorine to the water. So when it’s time to shock, we recommend a non-chlorine shock.
How do I know the right dial setting for my hot tub?
Always start with the setting chart in your FROG product’s manual (see frogproducts.com for the FROG product you are using). With FROG @ease® self-regulating the chlorine level, dial adjustments are rarely needed. With FROG Serene®, it may take a few days of testing the water and adjusting the dial to get to the ideal bromine level.
