Frequently Asked Questions

Simply dip a test strip for 2 seconds, compare colors on the bottle and instantly check pH, Total Alkalinity, Total Hardness and your SmartChlor Cartridge level.

Regular test strips don’t work with FROG @ease. FROG @ease Test Strips are specially designed to read SmartChlor levels — and show a simple “out” indicator when the cartridge needs replacing.

SmartChlor is a unique chlorine that self-regulates at a consistent 0.5 – 1.0 free chlorine level so there is no need to test for that. Instead the FROG @ease Test Strip provides an out indicator for replacing the SmartChlor Cartridge.

Fresh Mineral Water∞ is our signature water quality experience — clean, clear and silky-soft water made possible by our patented mineral technology combined with significantly lower levels of chlorine. The result is water that’s gentler on skin and free from the harsh, over-chlorinated feel of traditional hot tub care.

30 FROG @ease Test Strips

It is very important that you check the Total Alkalinity and pH of the hot tub at least once a week to make sure it is staying in the correct range. SmartChlor effectiveness may decrease if the water is not properly balanced.

SmartChlor® Technology automatically regulates chlorine levels, so there’s no need to monitor them. FROG @ease Test Strips feature a simple “Out” indicator to let you know when it’s time to replace your SmartChlor Cartridge. For other FROG Systems using standard chlorine or bromine, FROG Test Strips help you maintain ideal sanitizer levels and get the most out of Fresh Mineral Water∞.

These work for me! Thinking of switching to Frog@ease Bromine cartridges. Can I use these strips to measure bromine or is it for chlorine only?

FROG Products

Hi Justin, both systems work great, but for the bromine product you will need to use these test strips, https://frog-old.local/product/frog-test-strips-hottub/

Thank you

I think the test strips are a great product. But I would like to be able to order refill strips for my existing bottle. This would save on packaging. Just a thought!

Larry Carmody

It is impossible to determine the PH level with the frog test strips. The colors range from a light orange to a orange/red. The results are always an orange pink that matches nothing. I have used two different bottles of test strips and had the same results with both. The alkalinity and hardness clearly show a result that matches the colors for those tests.

FROG Products

Hi Larry! We are sorry to hear the pH test result has been giving you trouble. We would love to give you some one on one help – could you give us a call at 800-222-0169? We would love to get this sorted out!

Nita Dupen

I see many reviews mentioning the test strips measuring the chlorine level way darker than on the bottle. I have used FEase for 1 year and never had this happen to me before but the last 2 test strip bottles all show way high chlorine levels so I finally used a test strip from another company and all values were the same EXCEPT the chlorine which showed very faint (low) chlorine. The water looks and feels perfect but it is annoying and concerning to have that super high chlorine level reading. I think the test strips need to be looked into. Thank you!

FROG Products

Hi Nita! Thank you for your feedback. It is important to only use FROG @ease Test Strips with FROG @ease. All other test strips will tell you your chlorine levels are low. Remember – FROG @ease combines SmartChlor Technology with Minerals to sanitize your hot tub two ways. Once your FROG @ease Test Strip SmartChlor result is lighter than the color on the bottle, your silver SmartChlor Cartridge is ready for replacement! Feel free to call us at 800-222-0169 with any additional questions or feedback!

Brent Ostrander

I have a the frog inline system with chlor/mineral cartridges. I use the yellow bottle frog @ease test strips. Why is the Chlor out indicator dark purple but the chlor cartridge is almost out and I have some algae bits coming from the jets? I know I have to change the cartridge but why is the strip dark purple?

FROG Products

Hi there Brent! You SmartChlor test result being darker than the color on the bottle is good! As long as it is darker it does not need to be replaced. Sometimes, if you use your hot tub less or have a smaller hot tub the silver cartridge can last longer than the average 3-4 week lifespan. As far as the debris coming from the jets, it sounds like you may need to purge your hot tub. Unfortunately it is common for organic matter to buildup and impact your water chemistry. Here is our detailed blog on purging! You can also call us at 800-222-0169 with any questions – we are happy to help!

Bruce Stuart

The test strips that have purple for the chlorine ALWAYS shows darker on the strips than the bottle. They are useless to ID if the chlorine is low or out. Frog needs to fix that problem. Used on a Frog Ease inline system.

FROG Products

Hi there Bruce! We are sorry to hear that the test strips have been difficult to use. Please call us at 800-222-0169 so we can further assist you! We appreciate your feedback.

Neo

When did the strips stop measuring free chlorine? and why?

FROG Products

Hi there, Neo! Our FROG @ease Test Strips have only ever shown the SmartChor Out Indicator. You may have bought the FROG Test Strips (white test strip bottle) on accident – these ones display Free Chlorine levels. If you use FROG @ease, we recommend you use the FROG @ease Test Strips (yellow bottle). If you use any other FROG System like FROG Serene or FROG Filtermate, we recommend you use the FROG Test Strips (white bottle). Please feel free to call us at 800-222-0169 with any additional questions!

Diana

I am also having trouble with your Frog ease test strips. So much so that I took it to the dealer with a sample of my spa water. Your strips was reading the ph and alkalinity high, then we tried Aqua Chek strips and my water is good, and strips the store uses, they both said the water was good. It's very confusing, and upsetting. The frog strips are new, so they aren't expired.

Lisa Gerken

These things are trash and never accurate. How incredibly frustrating I cannot enjoy my new tub because it’s always a guessing game if the strip is going to give us the correct reading.

FROG Products

Hi Lisa! We are sorry to hear the test strips are not giving you an accurate reading. Please call us at 800-222-0169 for help!

Ml

What if the chlorine shows deep purple? Is that too much chlorine

FROG Products

Hi there! As long as the test strip is showing a color darker than the Out Indicator on the bottle, you are good to go. FROG @ease is self-regulating so there is no need to worry about too much or too little chlorine. Just make sure your SmartChlor Cartridge is full and not needing replacement and you're all set!

Doug Levy

I have the same problem with test strips as many do on your site. When I pull the strip out and give it a shake, none of the colors come close, but after 10-15 seconds everything comes into focus, as the colors match the colors on the bottle. Also, how do I know how much of chemical to add to get desired levels?

FROG Products

Hi Doug, we are sorry to hear our test strips are giving you issues. We recommend you make sure your test strips are not expired. You can check this by referring to the date printed on your test strip bottle. As far as adding balancing chemicals, we recommend you follow the label instructions according to your hot tub's gallon size. Feel free to reach out to us at 800-222-0169 or customer.service@kingtechnology.com with any additional questions or concerns!

Greg Palmersheim

I recently purchased a bull frog spa and I have trouble reading the test strips. One time the test shows something say alkalinity is low and moments later I can retest and the alkalinity indicates high.

I need to buy more test strips.

FROG Products

Hi Greg, we're sorry to hear that reading test strips has been a challenge. One option that may help make test strip reading easier is to use the free FROG Water Care App. In the app, you can add your product and complete water testing anytime. You can either take a photo of your test strips and the app will read it for you, or you can enter in the colors you're seeing – you can select a few colors if it looks like it's in between two. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Service team – they'd love to help you at customer.service@kingtechnology.com or 800-222-0169!
