- Fill the hot tub with fresh water. If using source water high in calcium, iron or other metals, check with your dealer first — a metal control product may be needed. Drain and refill the spa if switching from a bromine or biguanide system (no draining needed if converting from dichlor, as long as the cyanuric acid level is below 80 ppm).
- Test and adjust water chemistry using FROG @ease Test Strips: Total Alkalinity first (80–120 ppm), then pH (7.2–7.6), then Total Hardness (150–250 ppm).
- Add initial shock: Turn on the jets and pour one full packet of FROG Jump Start® start-up shock per 600 gallons directly into the water.
- Heat the water to your hot tub manufacturer’s recommended temperature.
- Install the Holder: Remove the filter lid. With the filter cartridge in place, slide the holder down over the pipe where the nut holds the filter cartridge on. Make sure the cartridge openings face the filter area and the fin on the holder fits between two pleats on the filter cartridge. Push the holder down using the top handle until it snaps into place.
- Set Mineral Cartridge (Blue): Twist and set the dial on the bottom of the cartridge to #7. No further adjustment is needed for the life of the cartridge. Insert it into the holder opening closest to the outside of the hot tub by inserting the bottom of the cartridge first and pushing it back until it locks into place.
- Set SmartChlor Cartridge (Silver): Turn the dial to match your hot tub size in gallons (see the chart in your FROG @ease for Sundance manual). Insert it into the holder opening closest to the inside of the hot tub, using the same procedure.
- Confirm the cartridges are completely underwater — add water to the hot tub if they’re not. Re-install the filter lid.

With standard chemicals, you experience peaks and valleys in your sanitizing routine. When you add chemical, the level spikes. When you use the tub, the level drops. This yo-yo method goes away with FROG @ease because it maintains the same level of sanitizing from day 1 until the day the SmartChlor Cartridge is empty.
SmartChlor is a unique, patented type of chlorine. It will consistently maintain a 0.5 to 1.0 ppm free chlorine level as long as the pH is balanced. This would not be enough on its own; but with FROG Sanitizing Minerals, it’s a perfect combination that kills bacteria with minerals and a low level of chlorine that create Cleaner, Clearer, Softer® water.
The blue Mineral Cartridge lasts four months. The silver SmartChlor Cartridge typically lasts 3 – 4 weeks. When the SmartChlor Cartridge is depleted, the FROG @ease Test Strip will be a lighter purple color than the test strip bottle label. That is your cue that it’s time for replacement.
SmartChlor is slightly more expensive than dichlor but less than other systems. SmartChlor offers a nearly hands-off experience that automatically maintains consistent sanitizer levels, saving you time and guesswork while delivering clearer, more comfortable water with minimal effort. And with up to 75% less chlorine*, your suits won’t fade and your hot tub has less wear and tear.
Keeping your hot tub balanced will extend the life of your SmartChlor Cartridge. Keep pH under 7.6. Over circulation could also deplete the cartridge faster.
