If Chlorine or Bromine is Too High
- Stop adding chlorine or bromine
Remove chlorine tablets, take out any floating sanitizer, or turn down/off automatic feeders until sanitizer levels return to the recommended range. - Lower the chlorinator or salt generator setting
If using a salt generator, make sure the cell is clean and the water contains the proper salt level. Then reduce the output setting or turn the system off if sanitizer levels are significantly elevated. - Leave the cover open
Allow sunlight and air exposure to help dissipate excess chlorine more quickly. - Run the jets
Use the circulation system to speed the natural reduction of sanitizer levels. - Partially drain
If sanitizer levels remain high, partially drain the swim spa and refill with fresh water to dilute the concentration. - Sanitize
Once chlorine levels drop to 2 to 4 ppm, reinstall or reactivate your sanitizer system. If using a floater, start at a lower setting. For floaters without adjustable settings, partially fill the floater to reduce sanitizer output.
Adjust sanitizer output gradually, changing only one setting per day and testing the water after six hours to measure the impact. Once you find the correct setting, leave it unchanged.
Reduce the overall amount of chlorine or bromine being used to help prevent future over chlorination. - Consider using a FROG® sanitizing system
FROG® @ease® for Swim Spas combines sanitizing minerals with a lower level of chlorine to kill bacteria and reduce chlorine use by up to 75%.
Retest the water regularly and wait until sanitizer levels return to the recommended range before using the swim spa. When abnormal conditions occur, such as heavy bather use, shock the swim spa as needed.
