  • Granular hot tub or swim spa chemical
  • FROG TruDose Cap™ with built-in measurements
  • Compatible with all FROG sanitizing systems
  1. Test the water using test strips to verify that Total Alkalinity is below 80 ppm before adjusting your pH.
  2. Measure the dose using the translucent FROG TruDose Cap™ based on your hot tub or swim spa gallon size and the bottle’s chart
  3. Add the product with the jets running and the spa cover off while no one is inside the water.

Total Alkalinity (TA) measures how well your water is buffered against changes in pH, making it the first step when adjusting water chemistry. If you’re dealing with low TA in your hot tub or swim spa, using an alkalinity increaser like FROG TArget helps raise total alkalinity to the ideal range of 80–120 ppm. Maintaining proper levels supports clearer water, protects spa surfaces and simplifies overall spa maintenance. Adding an alkalinity increaser as needed is a simple, effective solution to stabilize water and maintain a balanced, comfortable soaking experience.

Without the buffering Total Alkalinity (TA) provides, pH will swing dramatically from acidic to alkaline making it very difficult to achieve the neutral pH range of 7.2-7.6. Without a balanced TA, your spa water will feel uncomfortable, and it can harm hot tub or swim spa surfaces and equipment.

Low Total Alkalinity can result from source water (the water used to fill your hot tub), body oils and sweat, low‑pH sanitizers like chlorine, routine evaporation and refilling and aeration from hot tub or swim spa jets.

Low Total Alkalinity lowers pH, making water more acidic—causing dry, itchy skin, corrosion of surfaces (metal rails, filters, screws, pipes), reduced sanitizer effectiveness and unstable pH which makes maintaining water balance challenging.
