How to Start-Up Your Pool for the Season with Pool FROG®

A Pool FROG Mineral Reservoir and Cycler sit on the deck of an in-ground pool.

Opening Your Pool

  1. Always balance your water first.
Keep Total Alkalinity at 80–120 ppm, pH between 7.2 and 7.8 and Total Hardness at 200-400 ppm.
  2. Check Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid) Levels
Ask your pool dealer to test your stabilizer level. Cyanuric Acid (CYA) helps prevent chlorine from being burned off by the sun. The FROG® Chlorine Bac Pac® contains CYA. For some pools, this may be enough.
  3. Shock the Pool
Use a chlorine shock treatment to remove contaminants and establish a baseline chlorine level.
  4. Insert new POOL FROG Mineral Reservoir
This kills bacteria for 6 months.
  5. Insert FROG BAM®
This self-dispensing algae preventative provides 90 days of algae prevention — guaranteed.
  6. Insert a Chlorine Bac Pac
Set the dial based on your pool size and pump run time per the chart in your manual.
  7. Test for Phosphates
Phosphates feed algae. If they run high, try FROG® 90-Day Goodbye Phos® – a simple Pool Pod you drop in the skimmer for 90 days of protection against phosphate build-up.
