Just bought a new Sundance Optima spa which came with the Frog @ease 2-in-1 care system. I have to say I am hooked on the water conditioning of this product. I am so excited that I wanted to buy more product to insure I can always have water that feels this great! Unfortunately, I am finding it nearly impossible to find the mineral replacement cartridges (need to be changed ~ 4 months) that fit the Sundance/Jacuzzi cartridge holder. It would be a huge disappointment to have to change chemical systems because I cannot find the refills.

- Fill the hot tub with fresh water. If using source water high in calcium, iron or other metals, check with your dealer first — a metal control product may be needed. Drain and refill if switching from a bromine or biguanide system (no draining needed if converting from dichlor, as long as the cyanuric acid level is below 80 ppm).
- Test and balance the water in order: Total Alkalinity first (80–120 ppm), then pH (7.2–7.6), then Hardness (150–250 ppm).
- Add initial shock: With the jets running, pour one full packet of FROG Jump Start® start-up shock directly into the water (one packet per 600 gallons) to establish an initial chlorine residual.
- Heat the water to your hot tub manufacturer’s recommended temperature.
- Set the dial on the blue Mineral Cartridge to #7 (maximum setting). No further adjustment is needed — this cartridge lasts about 4 months.
- Set the dial on the silver SmartChlor Cartridge based on your hot tub’s gallon capacity (see the chart in your manual). This cartridge lasts about 3–4 weeks for an average 400-gallon hot tub, varying with hot tub size and bather load.
- Insert both cartridges into the floating holder one at a time. The best way is to put the bottom of the cartridge in the holder opening first with setting dial facing out and push each into place until secure.
- Place the assembled System into the hot tub to float.

With standard chemicals, you experience peaks and valleys in your sanitizing routine. When you add more sanitizer, the level spikes. When you use the tub, the level drops. This yo-yo method goes away with FROG @ease because it maintains the same level of sanitizing from day 1 until the day the SmartChlor Cartridge is empty.
SmartChlor is a unique, patented type of chlorine. It will consistently maintain a 0.5 to 1.0 ppm chlorine level as long as the pH is balanced. This would not be enough on its own; but with FROG Sanitizing Minerals, it’s a perfect combination that kills bacteria with minerals and a low level of chlorine that create Cleaner, Clearer, Softer® water.
The blue Mineral Cartridge lasts four months. The silver SmartChlor Cartridge typically lasts 3 – 4 weeks. When the SmartChlor Cartridge is depleted, the FROG @ease Test Strip will be a lighter purple color than the test strip bottle label. That is your cue that it’s time for replacement.
SmartChlor is slightly more expensive than dichlor but less than other systems. SmartChlor offers a nearly hands-off experience that automatically maintains consistent sanitizer levels, saving you time and guesswork while delivering clearer, more comfortable water with minimal effort. Keeping your hot tub balanced will extend the life of your SmartChlor Cartridge. Keep pH under 7.6. Over circulation could also deplete the cartridge faster.
