How to Close Your Pool for Winter with Pool FROG®

A man tosses a child into a backyard pool while a toddler in sunglasses floats on a ring nearby.

Getting Your Pool Ready for Closing

  1. Balance the water
Just like at start-up, it’s important to balance your water before closing. Keep Total Alkalinity at 80–120 ppm, pH between 7.2 and 7.8 and Total Hardness at 200-400 ppm.
  2. Shock and treat the water
Shock the water with a nonchlorine shock to rid the water of contaminants and add FROG® BAM®. This is a one-two punch to keep water clean during the winter.
  3. Lower the water level
Lower the water level to below the mouth of the skimmer to prevent freezing that could damage pipe or the skimmer.
  4. Prep your equipment
Drain all water from all equipment, including pumps, filters and your Pool FROG Cycler using the knobs at the bottom.
  5. Remove the Bac Pac
If the chlorine cartridge still has product, wrap it in plastic and store it safely. Discard the Mineral Reservoir, as it only lasts one season.
