How to Clear Up Cloudy Pool Water with Flippin’ FROG®

Hands press the blue chlorine cartridge into the green mineral cartridge of a Flippin' FROG beside an above-ground pool.

How to Fix Cloudy Water

  1. Keep water circulating
Run your pool pump 24 hours a day until the water clears.
  2. Check and balance pH
Keep your pH between 7.2 and 7.8.
  3. Shock the pool
Follow the shock treatment instructions to help clear up the water.

How to Prevent Cloudy Water

  1. Maintain proper pH
Keep pH between 7.2 and 7.8 at all times.
  2. Maintain chlorine levels
Replace your Chlorine Pac when empty to keep chlorine levels at 0.5–1.0 ppm.
  3. Check your system regularly
Inspect the pump, skimmer, and filter for blockages and clean or backwash as needed.
  4. Keep debris out
Remove leaves, bugs, and other organic matter from the pool.
  5. Shock regularly
Shock at least every other week and after heavy use or rain.
  6. Adjust pump time if needed
If cloudy water happens often, try running your pump longer.
  7. Use a clarifier
For extra sparkle, use a preventative like FROG® 90-Day Goodbye Cloudy® — just drop a pod in the skimmer for clearer water.
