LSI Pool Calculator: Determine Your Water’s Saturation Index

Two women laughing and chatting at the edge of a clear backyard pool, one seated on the stone deck with her feet in the water and the other standing in the pool.

The Langelier Saturation Index (LSI), also called the saturation index for pools, is a calculation used to determine whether your pool is well balanced.

If the result is between -0.5 and 0.5, the water is balanced.

If it is below -0.5 or over 0.5 your water is either over or under saturated, which can lead to problems.

Add the necessary adjustment products to bring your

Total Alkalinity, pH and Total Hardness within the proper standards, then retest.

Ideal readings for proper water balance:

  • Total Alkalinity: 80-120 ppm (parts per million)
  • pH: 7.2-7.8
  • Calcium Hardness/Total Hardness: 200-400 ppm
