  1. Fill and balance: Fill your hot tub with fresh water, heat it to the manufacturer’s recommended temperature and balance the Total Alkalinity, pH and Total Hardness.
  2. Establish a residual: Add the packet FROG Jump Start® (one packet per 600 gallons) to establish an initial bromine residual.
  3. Blue Mineral Cartridge: Set to wide open at number 6 by holding the bottom and turning the top until 6 appears in the window. No future adjustments are needed for this cartridge.
  4. Yellow Bromine Cartridge: Set to number 3 as a starting point and monitor your bromine levels until they stay consistently between 1.0 and 2.0 ppm.
  5. Snap together: Push both adjusted cartridges into the openings of the floating holder and place in the hot tub.

Frequently Asked Questions

The blue Mineral Cartridge lasts 4 months or whenever you drain your hot tub. The yellow Bromine Cartridge lasts 2 to 4 weeks depending on the size of your hot tub and how often it is used.

Unlike chlorine, bromine slowly dissolves in hot water so it’s easier to regulate with far less odors. Bromine is less impacted by pH swings than chlorine, ensuring water is well sanitized even if it’s not perfectly balanced.

FROG Serene uses FROG Sanitizing Minerals and a low level of bromine to create Fresh Mineral Water∞ in your hot tub. Prefilled cartridges eliminate guessing and handling of chemicals.

Purchasing a hot tub was our covid project. Using a hot tub is different than owing a hot tub and having to learn how to care for the water.

The hot tub dealer provide a bag full of starter chemicals, with the sanitizer being chlorine. They are good at the hot tub hardware and service, but we found out not so good with chemical/water treatment side of the equation. The water was sometimes cloudy and foamy. They told us to add more chemicals to remedy the issues. (In the end the extra chemicals made things worse.)

After developing skin irritations that looked like red itchy spots and poison ivy looking patches, it was time to dig in to the root cause and find a solution.

A few months later, after speaking directly with the folks at Frog, (and two dermatologists), it seemed the skin irritations may be from the cyanuric acid stabilizer in the chlorine crystals.

We changed to Frog Serene System, with Bromine and Mineral Cartridge. Frog also recommended a more compatible stabilizer (sodium peroxydisulfate).

Leslie's Pool has been monitoring our water quality and provided guidance for the amount of shock to use/frequency (a tsp per person and two ounces once/month) for our 400 gallon hot tub. Wow, what a difference using Serene!

The skin irritations have decreased 99%! The best part is we use much less chemicals (small amounts of pH minus or dry acid/alkalinity up/and the new shock), the water is crystal clear, more stable chemistry readings. Serene is easy to use! Hope this info may help others.
