When and How to Shock Your Hot Tub or Swim Spa

A hand pours a packet of FROG Jump Start into bubbling hot tub water.

Every FROG® @ease® and FROG Serene® system includes a start-up shock designed to quickly establish a sanitizer level in freshly filled water.

For hot tubs, FROG @ease and FROG Serene systems include a packet of FROG Jump Start®. FROG Jump Start is a chlorine shock with an effervescent formula that dissolves quickly and distributes evenly throughout the water.

For swim spas, FROG @ease includes a packet of FROG Kick-It®, a single-dose start-up shock designed specifically for freshly filled swim spas.

Once your water is balanced, simply add the appropriate start-up shock and install your FROG system. Whether you’re using SmartChlor® with FROG @ease or bromine with FROG Serene, the initial chlorine helps establish the sanitizer level until your FROG system takes over ongoing sanitization.

When Should You Use Start-Up Shock?

FROG Jump Start and FROG Kick-It are designed primarily for start-up after filling with fresh water. For ongoing maintenance, we generally recommend using a non-chlorine shock like FROG Maintain. It’s easy to use, difficult to overdose and won’t add extra chlorine to the water.

FROG @ease: Shock monthly or whenever you replace the SmartChlor Cartridge.

FROG Serene: Shock weekly to help regenerate bromine.
