How to Open Your Pool for the Season

A man jumps into a pool.

Opening Your Pool

  1. Always balance your water first
Keep Total Alkalinity at 80–120 ppm, pH between 7.2-7.8 and Total Hardness at 200-400 ppm.
  2. Check stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid) levels
Ask your pool dealer to test your stabilizer level. Cyanuric Acid (CYA) helps prevent chlorine from being burned off by the sun.
  3. Shock the pool
Use a chlorine shock treatment to remove contaminants and establish a baseline chlorine level.
  4. Use an algae preventative
FROG® 90-Day Algae Barrier® is a simple pod that you drop in the skimmer for 90 days of algae protection.
  5. Add Sanitizer
Add whatever sanitizer you are using and maintain the proper levels as recommended.
