Easy Steps to Lower Bromine Levels
- Test the bromine level
If the bromine level is over 4.0 ppm, remove the Floating System from the hot tub and store away from children, pets, metal objects and open flames. - Wait for the bromine level to drop
Continue testing the water until the bromine level reaches 1.0 ppm. - Put the Floating System back in
Set the cartridge one setting lower than it was before. - Test the water again after 24 hours
Check whether the bromine level has increased, decreased or stayed the same. - Adjust the cartridge as needed
Keep adjusting the setting until the bromine level stays between 1.0 and 2.0 ppm. - Consider how often the hot tub is used
If the hot tub is used infrequently, it may need less bromine. You may need to remove the Floating System periodically to prevent bromine levels from getting too high. - Check your test strips or test kit
Most test strips and liquid test reagents are only accurate for 12–18 months. After that, they may provide incorrect readings. Also, avoid touching test strips with wet hands. Moisture can contaminate the strips and reduce their accuracy.
