This is a two-part answer. First is the FROG minerals. Every FROG product has a Mineral Pac or Cartridge. FROG Minerals for swimming pools always last six months or one pool season, whichever is shorter. Note that in winter climates, if you remove the minerals from the pool after four months, they will not be effective next spring.
Second is the chlorine. This pac or cartridge life is dependent on many variables, including how large the pool is in gallons, how many hours your pump and filter operate per day, the temperature of the water, whether or not the pool is covered at all during the summer and especially how many people use the pool and how often. That means every pool is different.
Of all the variances, the use of the pool is the biggest factor. A 24’ round above ground pool used by four people every day of the summer is going to go through more chlorine than the same size pool with two people using it once a week.
If you feel your pac or cartridge should last longer, here are a few things you can try:
- Lower your dial setting – remember you only need to maintain a 0.5 to 1.0 ppm chlorine level as long as you use FROG minerals.
- Decrease your pump run time. If running 24 hours a day, you are pumping chlorine into the pool 24 hours a day. By using a timer set at 12 hours, you would increase the life of that pac considerably.
- Try a larger eyeball fitting in your return jet – this will decrease the back pressure, which will lower chlorine delivery from the FROG system.
Once you know the normal life of your chlorine pacs or cartridges, set a reminder to replace it on your phone or better yet, download the FROG Water Care App and get reminders sent to you automatically.
